beautiful work as usual, I really like the mood of the scene as well as the concept
I was thinking for many weeks if I should buy realflow...
could you tell me how long took the simulation and what version of realflow did you use for this work CPU wise
hey rhino awesome work
great realflow sim and great atmosphere shading!
this is prolly a silly question, could you explain how you created background and floor? is it just a background post image added radial gradient vignette and blur? because in the end when you see "the maneouvre" it looks like one setting with the floor, would like to know how you made background ^_^
It was running it on a Macbook Pro, so fairly modest, not sure what version as it was a vfx friend's lappy I borrowed while he was staying on my couch. That was 4-5 months ago I created the solution/meshes so I'm a bit vague on it now.
RF is quite picky with units/scale, things that work with a few particles don't work at all when you go to a higher particle count. You kind of just have to get a "feel" for it, what it can and can't do. Be prepared to spend a bit of time on it.
I split the mesh up into several solutions, each 3 letters, close-up solutions for more detail. Like most particle stuff more particles equal better looking meshes/results. Most things calculated overnight, the meshing only worked on one cpu, if I used two the internal volume mesh would render differently.
I would have gone back and redone parts if I still had access to RF. You can see in the last shot the Man section has slightly wider mesh settings, it's a bit more legible.
For the background, I created a studio light setup, rendered out pano .exrs. Used a combination of exr environments and or projection mapping. The last shot is a still of the frame projected back on to the background geometry. No lights or Gi in any sequence.
Robert Henke was kind enough to let me use the music, makes all the difference.
